Professor Albrecht (PhD Texas-Austin) specializes in the areas of sociology of work and gender. Other research interests include the American Labor Movement, conflict resolution, and the sociology of gender. Her publications have appeared in numerous journals, including the Journal of Applied Behavioral Science, the Journal of Sociology of Work and Occupations, Economic and Industrial Democracy, and Labor and Society. Areas: Sociology of Sex and Gender, Social Movements and Economic Sociology, with particular emphasis on women in the U.S. Labor Movement.
HOW DO PEOPLE INSURE THEIR RIGHTS TO DECENT WORK AND WAGES?
.......The economy is one of our primary institutions and for the majority of us, the jobs we hold have an enormous impact on the quality of the lives we lead. My primary research interest is in understanding the ways that workers organize to preserve their jobs and create a sustainable voice within the workplace. Of particular interest to me is the labor strike as a critical strategy employed by labor. This interest has led me in two directions. One, is understanding how labor strikes are influenced by the gender positions of its participants. And two, on a broader level, is understanding the effect that the labor conflicts of the latter 20th century have had on organized labor’s use of the strike.
