Elizabeth (Liz) Legerski is a PhD student who is currently working on her dissertation, titled, “The Effects of Family, Work, and Policy Changes on Low-Income Women’s Health Insurance Stability and Poverty,” which is a quantitative exploration of longitudinal data collected from low-income women in Boston, Chicago, and San Antonio. Her Master’s thesis, titled, "Women's Response to Spousal Unemployment: Economic, Labor Force, and Family Constraints," is a qualitative exploration of how job loss brought about by economic restructuring affects working-class families and gender arrangements, and is currently under review for publication. Liz is also an active member of ASA, MSS, SWS, and the Carework Network. In April 2009 Liz won an SWS White Paper competition for her essay, “Policy Options for Providing Universal Access to Health Care in the United States,” which examines some of the race, class, and gender implications of health care inequalities and reform options. Liz’s sociological interests include Gender, Work, Family, Globalization, Social Policy, Inequality and Social Change. As a graduate student at KU, Liz has taught her own courses in Research Methods and Social Problems. Liz plans to complete her dissertation work by Spring 2010.
